Estates & Facilities Management
This is an area which encompasses a wide range of activities. It is hoped that with the help of experts from the UK, in collaboration with key staff in Ghana, the Upper East Region can be guided to develop its hospitals in an appropriate way. Through the estates specialty it has been possible to review, facilitate and advise on a range of policy, planning, design, specification, procurement, construction and commissioning criteria to help guide and assist the UER GHS to evaluate the operational and functional suitability of their development. The scope of the manpower needed to maintain the proposed and existing estate, medical and specialist equipment has been established and training needs have been identified and training delivered.
Currently GHS is planning to develop a polyclinic in Bolgatanga and redevelop Bolgatanga Regional Hospital into a Teaching Hospital. This will not only be an enormously significant contribution to workforce strengthening for GHS- UER but could potentially help speed up the economic development of the region as a whole.
Under the Estates and Facilities management umbrella, training is also delivered in electrical safety, water and sanitation planning and waste management.
Therefore the Estates and Facilities Management work stream is making a major contribution to planning, facilities management and the effective maintenance of equipment, buildings and services throughout the region.
