The diagnostics specialty, which is split into radiology and radiography, is working to ensure a consistent delivery of diagnostic services across the region through strengthening the indigenous radiographic workforce in the UER. The team have delivered quarterly continuous professional development training sessions to all radiographers and X-ray technicians in the region, as well as carrying out a tailor made course for radiographic assistants. Practical experience in obstetric scanning has been given and a red dot process put in place to help in identifying abnormalities on X-ray films. A pioneering form of telemedicine has been introduced giving Ghanaian practitioners access to radiological opinions not available anywhere in the Region. The availability of functioning available equipment has also been optimised due to a volunteer who fixed and repaired a range of diagnostics equipment in Partnership with the regional hospital’s two engineers.
